I’m lazy when it comes to make-up. I usually won’t leave the house without it but I also won’t take the time to reapply during the day. So typically about 1:00 or so, any make-up I’ve put on in the morning has disappeared from my face. I’m fortunate though. I have a fairly even complexion and only the occasional blemish. However, I do have some annoying brown spots (on lentigos as we called them in the business) that I’m trying to fade with various products.
So when Stephanie from Beauty Brite gave me the opportunity to pick a few of the Mae Mineral products to use and write a review about, I really didn’t think I would be overly impressed. After all, I used to work for a cosmetic dermatology practice where we sold one of the first mineral make-up lines, Jane Iredale. I also jumped on the bandwagon that everyone else did and used Bare Essentials.
According to their website, Mae Minerals was founded in 2006 by a WAHM after identifying a need for a natural, AFFORDABLE mineral make-up. Mae Minerals are 100% natural will no fillers, dyes or substances such as carmine. Sure there are a lot of mineral make-ups on the market with great, natural ingredients. So what made Mae Minerals stand out for me? The ability to buy SAMPLE sizes!
Stephanie gave me a foundation, veil and MVP (Mae Versatile Powder) to use. Even though Mae Minerals’ website gives you instructions on picking the best foundation for your skin type, I was slightly off. Let’s face it (haha, get it) I need to try foundations on my skin to find the right color. I wish I could have had someone match a foundation to my skin color. However, I did still wear it a couple of days, with the veil and felt the coverage was adequate. But because sample sizes are incredibly inexpensive, it would have been simple and easy to the get the right shade for me.
So even though the foundation & veil were a little off due to my lack of color sense, the MVP product was spot on! MVP can be used on the eyes, lips, cheeks and nails! I used it in replace of the eye shadow that I had been using for several years and loved it. Really, I am not exaggerating, I really love it. Why you’re probably wondering? Because it actually stayed on all day! It went on smooth and even, stayed on all day and easily came off at night with my Almay makeup remover wipes. I also tried MVP on my lips and again, the product stayed on through 4 diet cokes (yeah, I have a little bit of a caffeine problem).
Previously I told you sample sizes could be purchased and I’m sure you thought what I did. They won’t last a week. Wrong. I’ve been using the MVP every day for about 3 weeks and have over 2/3 of the product left. The sample will easily last me another 2 months, if not longer. Sure, if you’re using a foundation or veil that is covering more surface area, you’ll go through your product quicker. But if for $2 I can buy an eye shadow that makes it through the day and last 2-3 months on average, then I’m sold!
