In two weeks, we’ll be in Orlando on our first real family vacation with my daughter and my step-son. Real as in we’re not going to visit or stay with family or friends which meant, one of the first decisions we had to make was determining where we were going to stay.
My family consists of my husband, 15 year old step-son and 2 year old daughter. They all have one thing in common: they all SNORE. I’m not necessarily a light sleeper but things I considering annoying (like snoring) keep me awake. Knowing this fact about my family, it was imperative that I found a hotel with real bedrooms and doors that shut but was also reasonably priced and kid-friendly. After getting some advice from friends, reading some blogs and doing some research, I decided we’d start our vacation by staying at the Nickelodeon Suites Resort.
The Nickelodeon Suites Resorts offers three different types of suites: 1 bedroom kitchen suites, 2 bedroom kid suites and 3 bedroom kid suites. Each room comes with the following standard ammeneties:
Several things attracted me to the Nickelodeon Suites Resort. Because of that little snoring issue I mentioned, the ability for us (me) to have my own bedroom with a door that shut was key. This room doesn’t have a full kitchen (no stove, oven or full-size refrigerator) like the 1 & 3 bedrooms but that’s not an issue for us. As long as we have a mini-refrigerator for our drinks and small snacks, we’ll be fine. Cooking and vacation are not words that should be used in the same sentence anyway. Below is the layout of the two bedroom suite that we’ll be staying in. You can see I’ve already assigned rooms.
Dora was another big draw. In our series of 12+ hour road trips that started last May, Dora was our saving grace. I bought a $5 Dora DVD at Target and put it in the portable DVD player that we specifically bought for our car trips. My daughter had never seen Dora before and she was instantly hooked. She watched that DVD at least 50 times in a row while we drove all over the country (we tried to get her to watch something else – she refused but hey, she learned some Spanish). Seeing her face when she walks into the Dora themed room will be priceless. Meeting a real-life Dora may be more than she can handle!
Finally, another big draw was the proximity to all of the attractions we’ll be visiting in Orlando. No vacation to Orlando is complete without going to Walt Disney World, which is only a mile away. In fact, many of the attractions we’ll be visiting are just a few miles from the property. Lake Buena Vista Factory Stores are just two miles away – perfect if you need to buy the bathing suit that you forgot to pack (yup, I’ve done that before).
I can’t wait to share all of our experiences (and tips, gotta share the tips) with you! Have a question about the Nickelodeon Suites Resort? Let me know and I’ll find the answer for you.
