One thing I learned while taking the Social Fabric University Food Photography class was that in order to showcase your food, you need the proper props. That means having gorgeous and unique serving pieces that display your food in an appetizing way. Your food may taste good but it also needs to look good. As someone who likes to entertain, I need to make sure my serving pieces not only look great but are also functional. As a mom trying to make more eco-friendly choices when it comes to my purchases, I was delighted to have the opportunity to review a product from Core Bamboo.

Core Bamboo is a manufacturer and wholesaler of several bamboo products including bowls, serving trays, cutting boards and bakeware who takes pride in not only the quality of their products but also the environment in which they are made. Every product that bears the Core Bamboo name is made ethically and in a socially responsible way. All of the bamboo they use is 100% organically grown. They have so many functional and stylish products that it was hard to choose just one but I finally decided on the Core Bamboo Two-Tier Serving Tray.

The tray was very easy to put together. It came in four different pieces (two trays, two rods) and by simply screwing the rod together, I had the serving tray put together in a matter of minutes. The tray is 10.5″ tall and 10″ in diameter so it fits perfectly on my countertop. There is not a lot of clearance between my counter and the upper cabinets to this height fits perfectly for me. If you have more clearance space then you could definitely opt to get the 3-tier stand that is available. This is the first bamboo product that I’ve owned and I will tell you that it’s a sturdy material. I think years of seeing my co-workers with bamboo plants made me think bamboo wasn’t that durable. That’s definitely not the case. Even though this tray is only for serving, it definitely has some substance to it.

Filled with yummy gluten free snacks from Udi's
The only thing I would change about this serving tray is the addition of some type of rubber cap or other protective measure to put on the bottom of the serving tray where the metal rod screws into the base. Even though the rod hasn’t scratched my countertop, it does make me a bit nervous and I’d like that added bit of protection. In terms of functionality or durability, it’s not needed.
This serving tray will get plenty of use and if properly taken care of, will last a lifetime. Not only do I have a gorgeous, durable product, I’m also supporting a company that is eco-friendly. Now I’d say that’s a win-win for everyone.
