Last winter my daughter had a dry, hacking cough that lasted for weeks. She never ran a fever or had any other symptoms. Just that dry, annoying cough that would keep her up at night. After talking with her pediatrician and several of my friends who are registered nurses, I finally realized what she needed was a cool mist humidifier. Humidifiers add moisture to the air, which helps with those nasty coughs.
There are many different brands and types of humidifiers out there but for my toddler’s room, I knew that I would find exactly what I was looking for at Crane. Last Christmas my brother bought my daughter the movie Happy Feet. She became infatuated with penguins so it was only logical that we chose Puffington the Penguin. Her room is pink and girly so the last thing I wanted was an industrial looking humidifier, plus, because “pink and blue are her favorites,” Puffington was toddler approved.
When looking for humidifiers, you have a choice between cool mist and warm mist. For safety reasons, experts recommend using cool mist humidifiers for children. Hot water or steam from a warm mist humidifier can burn a child. For those who are eco-friendly and energy conscious, cool mist humidifiers also use less electricity because you’re not paying for a heating element.
Puffington was easy to set up. All I had to do was rinse out the water tank once and then fill him up with cool tap water. Set him up and then turn him on. It really was that easy. It’s important to remember that you need to clean your humidifier regularly. Detailed instructions are provided in the owners manual.

I have 3 kids with asthma, and humidifiers really make a difference! We have Crane’s Dragon, Frog, Elephant, Penguin, and pink Bear, and we love them all! During the dry seasons, I set them up all over the house — in all the rooms my kids play in. It’s wonderful to make it through dry seasons without bloody noses, too!
I love Crane humidifiers. They offer so many cute characters or for older children or even adults the drop humidifiers are great too.
