When I told my step-son I was getting him the new EA Sports NCAA Football 13 game for XBOX 360, he was excited. It’s one of his favorite games and because we are a house divided, it is a fun way for my husband and him to claim bragging rights since the last time their teams played each other was in 1983 (Ohio State won 24-14 in Norman). What I didn’t tell him is that he would be on the cover of the game. Or that his dad and I would have so much fun putting him in an Ohio State Buckeye uniform.
The day we ran out to get the game, we had a ton of errands to do. So we made it a family affair and headed to our local Walmart to get my husband’s car tire fixed and do a little shopping (check out what my daughter scored in my Google+ album). Things took longer than expected dropping off our car so it was nice that Walmart makes it easy to find the games you’re looking for. They have great displays that lead you right to the game system you’re buying for. In our case, it was XBOX 360.
My husband found the game first. I think it was kind of a competition. A competition with no prize! Well, unless you count the prize as bragging rights. Which I don’t, unless I’m the one who wins.
When we got home the first thing I did was start working on the customized game cover. It was easy to do and took no time at all. I never realized you could do this or I would have made one last year! We knew we wanted to rile him him up a little bit so we put him in the one team he probably despises as much as Texas (sorry Horns fans), Ohio State.
My step-son was supposed to be with us last weekend but unfortunately his schedule was changed and his visit was moved to the following weekend. I wanted to see the priceless look on his face when he saw the cover but instead I text him a picture of it and got a funny little emoticon as a response. His dad decided to make the most of having the game to himself and took the opportunity to check out the new features and practice playing. He really liked the new reaction time feature. For someone who doesn’t play that often, it gave him a bit more time to think about his plays. Let’s face it, a 16 year old is much better at this than a 49 year old! The new features for NCAA Football 13 include:
Heisman Challenge – Win it for your school as you play as one of 10 former Heisman Trophy winners under center, in the backfield, or split wide, see if you can utilize his legendary skills for your favorite college team in a quest to match his award-winning historical performances and win the Heisman Trophy once again.
Choose from the following former Heisman greats:
· Robert Griffin III
· Doug Flutie
· Herschel Walker
· Marcus Allen
· Charlie Ward
· Barry Sanders
· Desmond Howard
· Eddie George
· Carson Palmer
· Andre Ware
An All-New Passing Game – A revolutionary passing system brings added authenticity to the Quarterback position from ball trajectory to play action pass to the option. Enhanced receiver control puts you in position to make a play on the ball and new read and react defensive coverage delivers greater realism on the gridiron.
Reaction Time – Great players see and feel the game differently. With Reaction Time, the game slows down during key moments, increasing your on-field awareness and opening up more opportunities as you sense things before they happen.
Dynamic Dynasty – Recruiting goes deeper than ever with the addition of dynamic recruiting pitches. For the first time ever, your recruiting grades can change each week based on your performance in Dynasty mode. In addition, Gameday Saturdays come to life with live studio updates and enhanced commentary by Rece Davis.
At the last minute we invited some friends over and had a little game day party! Because whether you’re watching football on game day or playing football video games with family and friends, game day foods are always a necessity!
And because we we’re unsure which college football team my daughter will end up cheering for, I decided to mess with my husband see what she’d look like in a Wolverines uniform. I really wished Iowa was an option! Maybe next year.
