Last week was bittersweet for me. After finally making the decision to move our family, we had the harsh reality of packing up our home and loading all of our things onto a moving truck. As the truck pulled away, we then had the daunting task of figuring out how to fit everything that didn’t make it onto the truck into our cars.
If you’ve never used professional movers before, let me tell you about some of their rules. They completely make sense but can be a bit annoying at times. First of all, they will not take any liquids. All your cleaning supplies? Either haul them in your car or donate them to a friend. Another no-no? Candles. Because, sitting in a hot truck, they’ll melt and who wants to deal with that mess. So, in addition to two dogs, my daughter, all of our clothes we’ll need for the next month (because we haven’t found a house yet – ugh), toys, carpet cleaner, vacuum and even more things that I’m not sure why they didn’t make it on the truck, our cars were overloaded.
Finding my stuff was a mad house. Things I needed were in separate bags, in different cars. After being frustrated about not being able to find my stuff, I finally had a lightbulb moment and remembered my ChicoBag reusable bag. I put all the things I needed within arms reach in my ChicoBag Vita bag and wallah, no more searching the car in frustration! It also made it easier when we finally pulled into my parents driveway after a 9 hour car drive. I grabbed my bag (which stood out from the sea of black bags in the car because of the cool pattern and color) and headed inside to see the family.
Packing and moving is not fun but it’s worth every bit of hassle to be closer to our families. This year my daughter will actually get to celebrate her birthday with her grandparents, uncles and cousin. We’ll be able to come back for my nephew’s birthday and if we can score tickets, an Iowa Hawkeye football game! You can be sure the next time I pack up my car for a road trip, I’ll be sure to use my ChicoBag Vita reusable bag. Some cool features of the bag include:
- It’s lightweight – it only weighs 2 oz! Perfect for the car or airplane.
- It’s tough – you can carry up to 40 lbs in it. That means my daughter’s DVD, my snacks, power cords and even more can all go into the bag.
- It’s big – the bag measures 19″w x 12.5″h.
- The bag is almost most of 100% recycled materials & when I saw almost, we’re talking very, very close.
- Best of all, when you’re not using it, you store the bag in the little pouch which is ATTACHED to the bag so you never lose it.
Our moving adventure is still not over. Tomorrow we head back to Iowa to pick up my daughter and dogs and then it is off to Ohio to visit the other side of the family. After a few days there, we’ll pack up again and drive back to Chicago and wait for our movers to arrive with our things and finally settle into our new home (since starting this post we have found an awesome property) and I’ll do it all with my ChicoBag right beside me.
