Every once in a while you need a break. A break from social media (gasp), a break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. A great way to take that much needed break is a family game night with your favorite game and foods.
If you’ve been keeping up with my blog, you know in the past few weeks we moved from Arkansas to Chicago. In a period of four weeks, we flew to Florida, drove to Iowa & Chicago 3x and on a last minute whim, decided to drive to Ohio to visit my in-laws. Because of all this traveling, my plans for a family game night at our new home in Chicago were again put on hold. But luckily, we were able to have a family game night in Ohio, with my in-laws.

B watering the geraniums.
My in-laws have a beautifully landscaped backyard and since one of my daughter’s favorite things to do is smell the flowers, we thought it was only appropriate for her to help water the flowers!

The guys leveling the bird bath.
My nephew stopped by and he helped my husband and father-in-law level the bird bath. I’m pretty sure my father-in-law had more projects up his sleeve but after a long drive, we were ready to relax and start our game night!

Yummy Tyson Chicken Nuggets, Ore Idea Golden Fries with Heinz Ketchup #DipDipHooray #CBias
Now that all the manual labor in the garden was completed, we sat down to quick and easy meal of Tyson chicken nuggets and Ore Ida french fries. Because I’ve been trying to introduce more vegetables to my daughter, we also served sliced red peppers and baby carrots as part of her meal. She has a fascination with rainbows so I’ve told her we’re eating the colors of the rainbow. So far, it’s working.

I had picked up Hungry Hungry Hippos at my local Walmart. Even though the game said for ages 4 and up, I knew my 3-year would love the game and it would be age appropriate for her. Luckily for me, she’s never been one to put non-food items in her mouth.

The game was so competitive, we had to fix the hippo head!
After a very competitive game of Hungry Hungry Hippos (because who wants to lose to a three year old), it was time to relax and get ready for our trip to the lake the next day. Now that we’re living closer to both our families, we’ll have the opportunity to have even more family game nights. Our lives are so busy that its good for us to take a step back and keep things simple and fun. As we pack up the car to head back to Chicago, I’ve already put our next family game night on the calendar. Because simple and fun make some of the best memories.

Looks like a fun game night! I like how you eat the colors of the rainbow.
When you play games it’s such fun. Who wants to be cooking something complicated? Now you had a fun game night too!
I love Hungry Hungy Hippos! What fun! And your game night seems like a blast – my kiddos would adore the food! Thanks for the inspiration for our own family game night!

Hungry Hippos always takes me back to my childhood with my own siblings. It was so much fun and I love playing it with my kids now. BTW… love the rainbow idea! I might have to try that with a kid or two around here.
The rainbow idea works great! I’ve started using it on myself…lol

OMgosh, we were all over the place! My family lives in Iowa, my husband’s in Ohio. Had to get all the visits in before our move.
