12 Days of Pumpkin: Day 9 Pumpkin Oatmeal

Pumpkin Oatmeal

A couple of major things happened today. One, it has officially been two months since my husband, daughter or I have eaten fast food!  And two, it has been six weeks ago today I started doing the Team Beachbody Insanity workouts.  The whole Insanity workout thing is entirely another post but why this is relevant is because I'm always looking for recipes that are around 300-400 calories per serving that taste good and are filling. This recipe for Pumpkin Oatmeal fits that description, it doesn't … [Read more...]

Puppies vs. Babies – Which Is The Cutest Of Them All?

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Puppies vs. Babies for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine. We've all done it.  Stopped to ooh and ahh over a puppy or a baby.  But have we really answered the question as to who is cuter?  Puppies vs. Babies? As a mom, a playgroup leader and a former director of an OB/GYN practice, I'll probably lose credibility points but my vote is for the puppies, hands down.  I've never walked past a puppy that I didn't swoon all over. … [Read more...]

12 Days of Pumpkin: Day 8 Pumpkin and Bean Soup

Pumpkin Bean Soup

Finding savory pumpkin dishes that don't require chopping up a whole pumpkin and roasting it can be challenging.  Mostly, what you'll find in blogland are soup and pasta dishes. This soup can be doctored up anyway you want. I added a dollop of Karoun Labne Kefir Cheese to my soup but you could also add sour cream or a splash of heavy cream to give it an extra layer of flavor. My husband loves my turkey chili recipe but told me he liked this soup recipe even better. Maybe it's because I told him … [Read more...]

12 Days of Pumpkin: Day 7 Pumpkin Dip

One of the moms at my Halloween playdate brought this yummy pumpkin dip, so of course I had to include it!  She served her pumpkin dip with ginger snaps, marshmallows, apple slices and chocolate gold fish, it was a huge hit with everyone.  If you ever need a quick recipe that feeds a lot of hungry moms and kids, try making this super easy pumpkin dip! Pumpkin Dip Ingredients: 1-8oz pkg cream cheese (softened) 2 cups powdered sugar 1-15 oz canned pumpkin 1 tbsp ground cinnamon 1 … [Read more...]

Some Like It Hot – Colman Mustard Review

Colman's Prepared Mustard

For the record, I wrote the title to my blog post BEFORE going to the Colman website!  That alone should indicate to you that when I say Colman's mustard is hot, it really is! Seriously folks, this mustard has some kick.  I compared the ingredients of Colman's to my regular mustard to try and figure out what the difference was.  From what I could tell, the main differences were that Colman's used mustard flour (the other brand used #1 grape mustard seed) and Colman's did not use distilled … [Read more...]

12 Days of Pumpkin: Day 6 Pumpkin Pancakes

Halloween Paper Chains

Today I hosted a Halloween party for my play group. A group of about 7 moms and their kids came over to show off their costumes, eat some treats and make some crafts.  Why am I telling you this?  After all, this is a post about  pumpkin and I'm a day late. Well, because I spent the entire night trying to figure out inexpensive alternatives because I shipped the Halloween decorations that I ordered to my previous address...in North Carolina! So, in a panic I came up with these old school … [Read more...]

12 Days of Pumpkin: Day 5 Pumpkin Smoothie

Pumpkin Smoothie

My blender hangs out in the bathroom.  If the jar or canister (not sure what the technical term is, so how about the part you dump stuff into) is even sitting on the kitchen counter, my daughter goes into a panic.  She'll tell me to put it away, that she doesn't like it and most of the times, will have tears streaming down her face.  I figure if it upsets her that much, the least I can do is take it in my bathroom.  She'll eventually learn to love it as each time I make something with it, I … [Read more...]

12 Days of Pumpkin: Day 4 Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Bread

Pumpkin Bread

I know, first I put chocolate chips in the pumpkin brownies, now I'm doing it to the pumpkin bread.  Don't worry, this will be the last post for a while that includes chocolate chips and pumpkin.  Tomorrow we're going to venture off into some breakfast dishes, followed by some savory ones!  But don't worry, we'll come back around to those sweet desserts everyone loves. The first time I made Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Bread was with the intent of giving it to my neighbors for Thanksgiving.  Then I … [Read more...]

Karoun Dairies – A New Kind of Grilled Cheese

Grilled Cheese

Karoun Dairies produces a large variety of Mediterranean specialty cheeses and cultured dairy products.  With over 30 years of cheese making experience in the US (and even more abroad) they now have nationwide distribution.  Some of their specialties include: Labne Kefir Cheese - Traditionally made by draining whey from slightly salted yogurt, Labne is a thick & creamy yogurt cheese and a healthier alternative to regular cream cheese. It is also rich enough to be used as a substitute … [Read more...]
