Super Why Live Tour – You’ve Got The Power

Living in northeast Arkansas, we travel to Memphis frequently for shows, shopping and even just to eat.  Since it’s only an hour away, it’s nice to take advantage of what the big city has to offer, without having to actually live there.  Our most recent adventure?  Taking our daughter to see the Super Why Live Tour: You’ve Got The Power at the Orpheum.

Super Why Live! You’ve Got The Power was held at the historic Orpheum theater which sits at the crossroads of Main and Beale streets in Memphis.  It’s a great venue as nearly every seat in the house has a good view and parking is easy to find.  It started raining just as we pulled up to the venue so my daughter and I received door side service while my husband went and parked the car.

The show itself was entertaining and had the same look and feel as what you see on PBS.  If you’ve watched the cartoons with your children, you’ll know that in every story there is a message for children (and adults) to learn.  In this story, the message is that we can do anything we want to do and be anyone we want to be, by believing in ourselves.  Each character has the opportunity to realize their dreams as everyone searches for the answer to the question: who is the greatest super hero?  Throughout the show the audience spots “super letters” that are illuminated in various parts of the theater.  It was so cute to hear all the kids yell out the name of the super letters when they saw them!  I won’t tell you what the answer to the question was, you’ll have to see the show and find out for yourself!

The show was just under 90 minutes in length.  There was a rather long intermission but when the cast came back on stage, they brought with them their newest Super Reader, Woofster.  My daughter didn’t nap on the drive from Arkansas to Memphis so at this point, she was getting pretty cranky and wanted to leave.  Once she saw Woofster come on stage, her entire demeanor changed.  Her eyes lit up and she told me she wanted to meet Woofster.

One tired super reader!

Luckily we had VIP passes to meet the characters after the show.  Unfortunately Woofster was not able to make it but we did have the opportunity meet her next favorite character, Super Why.  There were four separate lines, one for each character.  Sometimes it was hard to tell where one ended and another began but while we waited in line for the characters to come out, the Orpheum staff had balloons for the kids (and adults) to play with.  B was pretty tired at this point and just wanted to go to sleep.  Within 5 minutes of us leaving, she was asleep in her car seat.

Parents, if you get the chance and have a Super Why fan in your house, check out the show while it’s on tour.  For the past two days my daughter has talked about the show and asked when we can go back.  Our family had a great time and now we know who the greatest super hero is. :)
