This weekend Christmas is going up at my house.  Yes, you heard me correctly, I am getting out the boxes of Christmas decorations and giving it to the madness! If you’re one of those people who think touching, buying or even thinking about Christmas is sacrilegious, then stop reading now.  But, if you’re like me and just want to have Christmas around for as long as possible, then keep reading because you’re going to want to how to keep greenery fresh during the holidays so your fresh Christmas wreath will last the entire season!

I’ve always been afraid to have “live” greenery in my home.  Plants seem to die once they enter my home.  I can vegetable garden with the best of them but give me a houseplant and we’re sure to have a little horticulture funeral in a few days.  But with these great tips from P. Allen Smith, I think even I can keep my greenery fresh this Christmas.

How To Keep Greenery Fresh

  • Recut the stems and soak the greenery overnight.  You can do this with stems, wreaths, boughs, etc.  You could stick them in your bathtub (make sure its clean and chemical free) or a large galvanized tub.
  • If you arrangement is already in the water, recut the stems and add glycerin to the water.  Use one part glycerin to one part water.
  • Spray the greenery with an anti-transpirant, which can be found at your local garden center.  It will hold he moisture in, making your greenery look fresher, longer.
